A long long time ago, in a far away place, I got married. Okay, it was three and a half years ago, and it was in Nebraska. BUT it was like a fairy tale! Anyway- my husband and I have always been really into listening to classic rock, especially on our record player. We wanted to incorporate our "loves" into our wedding as much as possible, so we had a slight music theme. Part of this was record bowl center pieces. We (actually the hubs, but I watched) made each of these by hand, filled them with Chex Mix and placed them on the tables with candles and whatever else. Later, we found that some art shops sell these bowls for $20 each. Ha! They were free!
Where to get records: We were lucky and my husband happened to be driving around and saw a basket of records sitting on the curb, ready for the trash man, but we were going to go to Salvation Army or Goodwill. We ended up with a lot of Christmas records, but who cares because they still look cool.
Time needed: 5 min per bowl (tops)
What you need:
- oven
- two pyrex/glass bowls (one slightly larger)
- record
How to make them:
1) Heat the oven to 250 degrees
2) Set the record on the upside down smaller pyrex bowl
3) Take the record out when flimsy and place inside larger pyrex bowl. Use this bowl as your form
4) Pull record out of the bowl and toss in the air like when making pizza crust to "loosen" the ripples
5) Let cool
I also suggest using a small piece of tape on both sides to fill in the center hole, so nothing falls out.
Funny Fact: This Doors album was placed in a Christmas music sleeve, and we didn't catch that it was a Doors original until it was taken out of the oven. (Imagine the curse words that came out of the husband)
